New City of San Antonio Trash Pick-up Instructions
Effective the week of 31 May there will be new City of San Antonio trash pick-up proceedures using new larger containers and automated equipment
- During the week of May 17, the city will deliver small kitchen recycling buckets, which will contain program material.
- During the week of May 24, the city will deliver a large brown and a large blue outdoor trash container to each resident in this area.
- During the week of May 31, 2009 the city will initiate the program and from that date forward only the large containers will be emptied.
- The blue container is for Recyclable material and will be picked up on Tuesdays only.
- The brown container is for Non-Recyclable material and will be picked up on Fridays only.
- Containers must be placed on the street near the curb with a five foot clearance to the right and the left of the container at or before 7:00am.
- There is no longer a weight limit for the container.
- If a container is damaged or stolen, residents may call 311 for a free replacement. If it is damaged, the identification number located on the container will be requested.
- Homeowner Associations, not the city, determine where containers are to be located during non-pick up times. Please continue to follow provisions of our CVV restrictive covenants
- Trash should continue to be placed in bags prior to placement in the container.
- It is recommended that personal data, ex. bank account statements, be shredded and placed in a brown grocery bag before being placed in garbage bag, which is then placed in the container.
- Plastic grocery/shopping bags similar to those used by HEB, Wal-Mart, Styrofoam material that that easily break up in small pieces, and Styrofoam peanuts are not to be placed in the blue recyclable container, but rather the brown container. #1 - #7 plastic recyclables qualify for placement in the blue recyclable container.
- Each year, residents are entitled to two free off-cycle pick ups. This is to accommodate those who have had an activity that resulted in an unusual amount of trash, ex bags of raked leaves, trash from a children’s party. This is in addition to the city scheduled brush pick ups. If an off-cycle pick up is needed, residents are to call 311.
- Additional information about the program may be obtained by calling 311.
